The Pacific Cup at Mayacama Golf Club – 2025

Over the years, we’ve brought Punta Mita’s spirit beyond our shores—creating unforgettable experiences that blend golf , gastronomy, and community. One of our most cherished initiatives is The Pacific Cup, a celebration of camaraderie and friendly competition between Punta Mita Members and fellow private clubs across the Pacific both at home and on the road.
Last week our latest trip took us to California’s world-renowned wine country for The Pacific Cup vs. Mayacama Golf Club & Resort—a Jack Nicklaus signature course nestled in the heart of Sonoma. A 12 man team led by our Director of Golf John McIntyre and our Punta Mita team of twelve passionate golfers gave it their all over two rounds against the incredibly welcoming Mayacama team, captained by the legendary “Pooch.” and a very competent Mayacama team including local legend Paul Ballati
While the final score tilted in favor of the home team (32–27), the true victory was in the friendships made and experiences shared.
On the Course:
Mayacama rolled out the red carpet—from personalized locker nameplates to bespoke menus, Punta Mita-branded caddie bibs, and impeccable course conditions. The competition was fierce yet friendly, and the hospitality second to none. Day one saw the home side take a 1 ½ point lead after the four ball matches with Luis Ituarte & Marcelo Lopez putting a strong showing as did our team winning four of the 5 closest to the Pin contests. With double the amount of points on the table for day 2s individual matches Punta Mita was well in strike for a upset victory. Despite strong showings from Kyle Bliffert , Bill Sterret & Marcelo Lopez the Punta Mita team were not able to bridge the gap going down by a close 5 points after the 2 rounds.
A Taste of Punta Mita – Sonoma Edition:
Our group stayed at the beautiful Montage Healdsburg, where we brought a slice of Punta Mita to the vineyards. Chef Juan Manuel Guizzo, our Culinary Director, hosted an open-air Taste of Punta Mita dinner for our hosts. Set among the vines, this private evening showcased Chef Juan’s wood-fired grilling mastery and warm hospitality that left a lasting impression on all while we also took a moment to share the news of our new Branded Montage Residences Punta Mita.
Off the Course:
While the golfers battled it out, our accompanying guests enjoyed vineyard bike tours, horseback riding, some shopping in Healdsburg  and the serene beauty of wine country life.
These initiatives are more than events—they’re about strengthening the Punta Mita community, promoting our destination, and sharing the spirit of our lifestyle with the world. And on top of that they are alot of fun !!
Here’s to more memorable moments, both at home and on the road. Viva Punta Mita!
