In 2008 we created the São Paulo Food & Wine at the Grand Hyatt São Paulo with the city’s principal newspaper as our partner and combining together to also host Paladar – Cozinha do Brasil. The later continues today having made it all one event. The original SPFW was a magic event and bought to life the Grand Hyatt São Paulo for 4 days from the Opening cocktail in Upstairs Bar & Lounge to the final brunch on Sunday!!! World Class Chefs, Local Chefs, Winemakers, focus with Brasilian products, coffee tastings, cooking classes –it was all there and all happening at the hotel. The SPFW won a number of accolades by Argentine Gourmet magazine Cuisine & Vins as Best International Food & Wine Event in 2008. Helping me pull this together were members of my team at the Hyatt – Silvio Araujo, Karina Faber and Chef Tommy along with Richard Pfander – without them we would have not pulled it off. Certain individuals critizise the initiative in creating and putting together such events as Masters of Food & Wine, São Paulo Food & Wine however I will defend this initiative always as events that help position your hotel or destination, excellent  media exposure, motivate your emloyees as they rub shoulders and learn from the best, brings together the community, builds relations with leaders of the community and last but by no means least they are profit driven events that over time become very attractive. Of course putting them together is hard work and only for the passionate alas I did not become a hotelier just to do check in check out – there is much more to it thank god!!!
