KYOTO
The Four Seasons Kyoto &
Noguchi Tsunagu
Kyoto 1* Michelin
We were all amazed by Kyoto from our 1st overnight in a Ryokan on the riverside where I hit my head on no less than 3 occasions to the beautiful parks, shrines and temples and of course the great food. First things first– The Four Seasons Kyoto which is located just off the beaten track however within a stones throw of everything in the serene and well-preserved Higashiyama district. I just loved the look and feel of this hotel from it’s beautiful gardens, lots of light , great decoration and top notch staff. It seems ever so authentic as you feel part of living history while you still enjoying the modern comfort and bespoke service synonymous with Four Seasons around the world. We met former Hyatt colleague and now GM Fanny here for a brief coffee and some insiders tips on the destination for which we are always grateful. I personally loved the room experience from the bathroom to the bed along with the decoration which allows a definite change in mood to the room in the evenings. The staff were super friendly and efficient- we loved the stay and highly recommend this hotel. Highly recommened taking a guide for a tour of the nearby Shrines & Temples within walking distance from the hotel.
This was our first meal in Kyoto and it turned out to be a fantastic meal for the four of us and probably the most memorable of the trip. There isn’t a better way for us to experience a Japanes restaurant than from the counter and this one was beautiful. On top of it there were the four of us and another local gentleman who departed shortly after we arrived so we had this beautiful , minimalistic space to ourselves.
The general atmosphere was very enjoyable, the cold draft beer was a delight coming in from the heat of Kyoto and the Chef and team behind the counter was very friendly. We had a Omakase Menu that consisted of the following : Matsutake of Mushroom and Eel ; Tuna Sushi, Beef Soup “Osaka nikusui” (beef soup) is the speciality, prepared with kudzu sauce and seasoned with sansho, Sashimi Snapper & Barracuda; Grilled butterfish followed by Ise ( Lobster). The Tuna was amazing as was the grilled butterfish. Put this one on you agenda for Kyoto – de sure to reserve and price range is between 150-200 a head including beverages. We also tried a number of different Sakes which paired incredibly well with the dishes served. One also had the option to order a la carte which is great. We stayed with the menu and were thrilled to have done so. Welcome to Kyoto!!!
