Hudson National Invitational 2019
Private Golf Course, Cozy Cottages, Five-Star Dining — we are one of New England’s finest golf destinations. Rated 19th best golf course in NY.
Brad Klein along with Aaron Grieshaber are 2 great mates that have one ( or more things in common) – we met in my early days at the St Regis in 2010/11 and became friends and have been so since then. They are both great guys, single digit competitive golfers who live smile wiping as much as I do.
Brad invited me up to the 2019 Hudson National Invitational ( their annual Member Guest event ) which conincided perfectly with my Annual sojourn up to the Big Apple which always including spending a day/ night at Castlecove however this time the honor was participating in Brad’s Member Guest.
To friends on both sides it seemed a rather strange coincidence that at the time of the Invitational both Carl & Brad were “dry” each one for their own particular reasons – for Carl it had been +65 days since my last Drop & CIggie and the beginning of #5keveryday or Embo Edition 2.0 and for Brad “perhaps tomorrow” had transpassed into +50days on the wagon as we call it down under !! So here we are 2 diehard party boys ready to Golf and Wine on Cranberry Sodas all weekend !! We had a blast – plenty of smile wipers, good golf, laughs and above all fond memories of golfing moments spent together. After day 1’s 3 9hole matchplay matches we were leading our Flight having won 2 and halved the 3rd match vs Persh a acquantaince of Brad and someone I knew as well. That half would prove our downfall as we went on to finish 2nd in our Flight with 7.2pts after the 5 matches losing one and winning one on day 2 for a overall 3-1-1 record not enough. Brad was solid over the 2 days with his putt saving the day on many a occasion including 2 memorable putts – one 35 footer downhill putt on the par 3 16th for a Birdie and another huge Putt for birdie on the 3rd hole but to mention a few. The 9th hole was my favourite with back to back birdies kicking off matches in thie par 5. The weather over 3 days was perfect and the course was in fantastic conditions with speedy greens, thick rough and treacherous “fiscus”. We played with some great guys and I had a great few days – hope to get another chance at this one !!
The weekend concluded with a lovely dinner at the Kleins with Bonnie , Charlotte & friends – lamb off the parrilla with chimi & salads & a delicious chocolate pecan pie. The perfect finish dosing off with a herbal tea in front of the fireplace !!!
