On a rainy & cold Saturday night in San Francisco, Sabine and I enjoyed what was our best dining moment on this recent trip to one of our favourite cities. From the welcoming bar scene and original and tasty cocktails to the unique autumn ambience and fast and efficient service (perhaps they could work on their timing a little in terms of service sequence) we enjoyed Prospect. As is to expect in many restos in US tables are rather close to each other however on this occasion we enjoyed discussing the attributes and weak points of the different dishes with our neighbours. I tried the hand picked Dungeness Crab Salad with avocado palm hearts and citrus which was well presented, subtle and tasty. Having been recommended by our neighbours to steer clear of the Beef options I went for the Liberty Valley Duck with rye berries, braised red cabbage, confit duck, apple and mizuna salad, walnuts and Duck Jus – being a big duck fan this was a duck to remember. Cooked perfectly and with a well balanced combination of flavours Sabine heeding yet again advice from our neighbours who were a course ahead went for the Pork with Yam, Sage, Brussles sprouts and cranberry relish – yummy and the dish of our weekend in a wet San Francisco. Paired with a Ramey 2008 Syrah from Sonoma Coast and later a nice Irish Coffee when we got back to the St. Regis San Francisco we slept like a baby.
