As we run up to the Olympics I look back upon days spent in this intriguing, magical, contrasting city and for any of our Mayakoba friends heading down for the Olympics here are some tips from an Aussie that lived in Brasil for 8 years. Some of my favourite haunts in Rio. Check in: Fasano managed by my good friend Cristiana Castrup and Philippe Starcks 1st project in Brazil or for a more traditional Art Deco Vibe try the Belmond Copacabana Palace. For Breakfast: soak up some local flavor at Talho Capixaba, or take in the famous Copacabana Beach at Confeitaria Colombo. See the sights: Rent a bike (public bike system has over 50 stations in Rio) and cycle to Vista Chinesa a lookout some 380mts up in Tijuca National Forest. Be sure to visit Cristo Redentor as well. Grab a coffee : in the historical Confeiteria Colombo. Sip an aperol: the caipirinhas at Bar de Praia come with a nice breeze included. For Dinner: Satyricon with great seafood or Aprazivel in Rios bohemian Santa Teresa. There is also a brand new Grand Hyatt in Rio de Janiero. I have not had the fortune to stay there however all I hear is belleza! Enjoy the games and la Cidade Maravilhosa.
